The Most Active Housing Market…
So far in 2018 there have been over 180,000 sales of homes across England. This is 1% of all English private housing stock. In other words, 1 in every 100 privately owned home across the country has been sold in the first few months of 2018
Just considering the sales of existing homes (ie excluding newly built properties), the most active housing market in the first months of this year has been Corby in Northamptonshire. With growth and investment plans, the local authority is set to see 15.6% growth in population in the ten years to 2026 according to the ONS, second only to the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
Just two areas which appear in our top ten were also on the leaderboard at this point last year: Margate and Bideford, both seaside locations.
Indeed, a continuation of a trend that we spotted this time last year, within our top ten are a number of coastal and holiday destinations. Investment in holiday homes has been boosted by increased taxation on more traditional buy to let properties.
